Valentines day is such a cliché ...

Personally, I'm not a fan. With just a week to go I want to say that I think it is over commercialised and, the day defeats the point of the notion. It's no longer a romantic gesture to buy your girlfriend flowers on Valentines day, it's an expectation. It would mean so much more if your partner got you a gift as a random expression of love. The only pro of valentines day for me is that chocolate is reduced the day after!

I wrote a poem a few months back that takes a dark spin on the normal romantic cliché so I thought this would be the perfect post to share it on:

Romance?

Our love is like a red red rose?

Dark and weltering as it nearing death.

Our love is like a fairytale?

There will always a be villain.

You are the apple of my eye?

Specifically, the hard foul pip.

You are the ying to my yang?

like a leach I can’t remove.

All is fair in love and war?

Innocents always suffer.

I can’t breathe without you?

I don’t get the chance to.

You are my soul mate?

More like my cell mate.

Two peas in a pod?

Trapped.
