Touristing, improvising, and ankle spraining in Edinburgh (Scotland pt 6)

Updated: Sep 1, 2018

Day 10

Edinburgh was as busy as London despite the weather but you can totally understand why. The city is so beautiful and full of culture and booming because of the Fringe fest.

We first went to Edinburgh castle in the hope of skipping most the crowds but golly is was rammed. Unfortunately the cloud was covering the hill so we didn’t get to see much until the cloud lifted a little. I’m sure you can tell from the photos how cloudy it was. We still enjoyed the castle and learnt a lot about the different wars Scotland have been involved with. And the castle is truly beautiful.

We then went to the writers museum which had loads of little jems about Robert Burns who wrote one of my favourite poems ‘Ae Fond Kiss’ which I studied at A level.

Desperate for lunch now that it was three we tried to get a seat in the Elephant House where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter but like last year it was busy so we went to a different cafe.

I then got to meet up with Hannah for an hour on her break from leafleting for her show Improvabunga at the fringe fest so we went for an ice cream (yes I know it was not ice cream weather but it was Soooo yummy- best ice cream ever). She showed me the flat she was staying in and then as I was leaving I had another clumsy Abi moment.... I feel down the stairs! How? I don’t know. I think I missed a step and then fell a couple of steps... so yay, now have a sprained ankle!

I then hobbled my way down the Royal Mile to rejoin the parents and we explored the old street and went in a few Harry Potter shops where I had to exercise a lot of strong will power and not by everything in sight.

Mum treated us to dinner in Pizza Express and then it was time to watch Hannah’s show!

Now imma gonna try my best I explain what it is and Hannah will probably read this and say “that’s an awful explanation” but hey ho, I’m the one writing the blog not her. So the show is totally improvised. The audience pick a card to select the genre. In our case it was Horror. Then the audience shout out the sub genre, we had ‘chainsaw aeroplane’. and then a location was selected from a jar of which we all put a bit of paper in and ‘gym changing room’ was pulled out. From there the cast have to improvise the whole 50 min performance. It was Fantastic! Even mum and dad were having a good chuckle.

Day 11

We left after a slow start and drove on to Keswick in the lakes for a little walk round the lake and grab some lunch. The cloud was just about clearing enough to see the hills surrounding it

So that concludes my Scotland road trip journey. You're probably pleased to hear that the spam is over! I hope you enjoyed this little mini series, I really enjoyed sharing it.

Thanks for reading and please subscribe if you haven't already x
