Bye Bye camping pod, hello beautiful Skye (Scotland pt2)

Loch Elit

First stop towards Skye was loch Elit, the location in which Dumbledore is buried in the Harry Potter films. This was a bit like the Skyfall drama back in Glen Etive as it was hard to work out the exact island in which it was as they all looked oh so similar. I think I found the right one but it was tricky to get a good photo as the trees were in the way and a mound when we tried from another angle as well as the footpath was way too boggy for my wee trainers. So, this is the best I got through the mist and the rain:

Arisaig

One of Mum’s favourite places in Scotland it Arisaig. It’s a peculiar little town in that it has every kind of landscape in different directions: the sea, the mountains, little village.

I told her she’s not allowed to move here though because I can’t have any more family members in Scotland – it’s too much travelling on the regular for my liking.

Jokes aside it is lovely here though: the weather doesn't help do it justice in my photographs.

Mallaig

Mallaig was a bit rainy so we hid in the car and listened to the northern lights on audiobooks whilst we waited for the ferry and watched some seals play in the water. We then saw them again from the ferry across to Skye. BONUS: no one got seasick on the way over.

Armadale castle & museum

The gardens were beautiful and Mum and I took a particular liking to orange flower(far right)

After messaging my friend Tilda, her mum reckoned it was a turk caps Lily

The Museum featured on the 1500s history and culture of the island which at the time was known as the ‘Kingdom of the isles’ . And the castle ruins were 19th century and they looked amazing with all the trees and ivy growing from the inside out. Nature always finds a way.

Fairy pools walk

Last time we were on Skye this was the only thing on our list we didn’t get to see, so this time it was our biggest priority. Despite the weather it was still stunning. The footpath follows the stream of water up the mountainside. If the weather had been better one might have had to go for a dip, the water was to clear and tempting.

Here is a slow mo making Motherbean seem more dramatic in her river crossings:

Dad also decided to be rebellious before we turned around and went back down the path

Pizza

Saucy Mary’s does one of the world’s best veggie pizzas. My mouth is watering just thinking about it now. I wish I had taken a photo of it but at the time I was too hungry to do anything but eat it. If you’re ever on Skye go here. Apparently, the puddings are amazing there too but after destroying a 12” pizza there was no more room.

I did however take a picture of the waterside opposite on our way back

Mackinnon house

This was our home for the night. It was a lovely house and served very good Skye gin which was much enjoyed by me whilst drafting up the part 1 blog post (go check it out of you haven't already read it)
