To 'the Tippity Top of Scotland' (pt5)

(quote RP 2018).

Day 8:

We left KLB ‘nice and early’. I took a quick photo before we left of the view from my bedroom window when I realised I hadn’t shared with you how beautiful it was where we were staying

These are some photos of the rest of KLB

Castle Mey was our first location (after a quick coffee stop in Thurso). We had a great time on the tour of the Queen Mothers castle in Scotland hearing funny stories of her stubbornness about not being old and being perfectly capable at 101 to still climb the stairs. It was beautiful castle with many homely touches you don’t normally see like a little Nessie toy on top of a tapestry that was hidden there by Prince Edward out of reach of the lady in waiting. Mum was very impressed by how ‘human’ the Queen Mother’ was in that she would always leave a towel on the radiator by the front door for the dogs ready for when she would get back from a wet walk- Maybe Amber (my dog) will be getting more luxury treatment like this one when we get home.

The garden was also very pretty and we also got to see all the animals.

A series I love on Netflix called 'The Crown' also features an episode all about her moving here and its a great episode so I was loving seeing the actual castle. (again I was geeking out).

Then we drove all the way to the “tipity top of Scotland” to John O’ Groats.

There were some amaaaazzzing artwork in some of the tourist shops, I would’ve loved to have spent lots of monies on many of them. In one there was a HUGE highland cow toy which I absolutely loved but considering the one to the right of it was £100 I dread to think how much the biggest one was.

It was a long day of driving so from there we went straight to our accommodation ‘Bannockburn Inn’ in Helmsdale and had lovely dinner. For desert dad had a Christmas pudding which comically came with a cracker. The ba-hum-bug refused to pull it, so we gave it to some children at another table.

Day 9

Full from a cooked breakfast we drove on from Helmsdale to Nigg Ferry to get across to Cromarty beach – a much appreciated shortcut (I’m starting to get very frustrated and agitated in the car).

We have been to Cromarty previously to dolphin spot so we were keen to go back again and see them again. We’ve been very lucky to see a lot of wildlife this trip, so evidently our time was up as the tide was wrong for us to see them. We instead booted up in walking boots again, we walked to Fairy Glen Falls for a much-needed stretch leg.

From there we went for lunch at Carrbridge. It totally looks like something from Lord of the Rings SO COOL!

Our accommodation for Sunday night was in Edinburgh, but thanks to the Fringe Festival we were staying in a hotel near the airport as everywhere in the city was booked out! So the next blog post will be a day in Edinburgh where there will be lots of geeking out! See you then
